I’m Max Rijnberg, founder of Pelagic Data Partner. I work at the intersection of mathematics, data engineering and machine learning, helping organisations extract real value from their data. My work spans multiple industries, from recruitment and port logistics to healthcare and volcanology, and what connects them is the same core challenge: making sense of complex data so better decisions become possible.
What drives me is the variety. Every project brings a different dataset, a different domain and a different set of questions. I get energy from sitting down with people who are experts in their own field, understanding what they do and what their data actually represents, and then figuring out what it can tell us. That combination of technical depth and genuine human conversation is what makes this work endlessly interesting.
My approach is always grounded in understanding the problem first. Around 70% of what I do is applied mathematics. The other 30% is software engineering. But the starting point is always the same: what decision are you trying to make, and what does your data need to do to support it?
I have a background in International Business and Data Science & AI, including an exchange programme at JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Finland focused on Applied Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. I apply that combination daily: technical rigour with an understanding of what organisations actually need.
